Car horns screech out impatiently, like a mother seeking out her children. Boys and girls dart across busy intersections, testing their luck. Dusk is approaching and the streets begin to fill with broken hearts.
Somewhere, the strings of a guitar are being tuned. A lonely soul prepares to dance with the night, crooning lullabies of a forgotten love.
An older man sits patiently on the bench, the green paint chipping and falling away onto the floor like winter leaves. He might wait for the bus, where he returns to a home that only he can love. Or he may never get onto the bus, but simply waits for a new opportunity to ride with.
Life continues with no intermission. Opportunities can be taken or left behind. Lovers can be the change you need or the road you never wanted to take.
There is a small hum floating in the air, the stories of people bouncing off the building walls. Secrets are kept safe with crossed fingers, until the walls begin to leak with envy.

He left with no reason.
She cried. More often than not she cried. She was good to him and most of the time he was good to her. She did not want him to leave, even after what he put her through for years, she wanted him to stay. I would look at her with a pain in my eyes. I would not approach her. I would only stare, and all I could think was, “Pathetic. How could she let herself be hurt by someone so unworthy of her pristine heart?” I wanted her to be strong. I did not want her to let this man take with him her glow. She should have never let her guard down. She should have held on tight to her heart.
Never would I let a man make me feel the way he made her feel. Never would someone make me look so helpless and beneath the world.
Her wound hardened. She learned to regret ever living the life she had with this man who left her vulnerable. She learned to wash away the shame with late nights. And still I sat and watched never dropping a tear. My frown deepened and I never once gave her a break. I believed she was supposed to be above the pain and betrayal. She was only human and I wanted her to be above it. I wanted a role model.
As time progressed she learned to forgive, and as more time passed she learned to thank. I would never have thought a person to thank the person who turned their world upside down, but she did. She thanked him for giving her her real life back. She came to realize it was a blessing in disguise. She wished him the best out of the love that still glowed in her heart. She was above it, and the only way to reach that state was to go through the incident and feel the pain of it all. She was a human who learned to be the best by living her life giving, and she realized the only way to make things better was to keep on giving. Never once did she wish this man the worst. She always wished him the best.
I stare at this woman and cry because I know I want to be just like her.
